We are a volunteer led, co-ed youth basketball organization focused on, but not limited to students in the Holland Christian feeder schools.  Despite our recruitment focus, we are not an official Holland Christian organization or program. We predominately participate in AYBT tournaments.  AYBT (American Youth Basketball Tour) is a grade-based, youth basketball organization.  AYBT hosts five-on-five weekend basketball events throughout the spring and summer across America. For more detailed information regarding AYBT, please visit www.aybtour.com

Typically, individual offseason youth basketball teams are organized by enthusiastic and engaged parents.  Their task: recruiting kids and their parents, scheduling gym time, finding coaches, collecting money, organizing tournaments and rides, etc...is a HUGE undertaking.  Simply getting it done is a feat in and of itself.  To accomplish this task WELL, with excellence, consistency, and a purpose is nearly impossible for an individual parent.  It is that much tougher to maintain an excellent program over a long period of time.  The Macatawa Maroons was formed because we saw an opportunity to create a SYSTEM that is not reliant on any one enthusiastic parent.  Enthusiastic parents are a crucial part of our program, but an over reliance on one particular person creates instability in any organization.  We exist not only for today's students, but for young basketball enthusiasts in the years to come.

By operating as a program, we believe we can provide distinct advantages and unique benefits for our players.

  • Quality of Coaching - Our coaches are all knowledgeable basketball minds who have a passion for working with young people.  All of our coaches will receive direct training and instruction from Varsity level HCHS coaches throughout the year.

  • Consistency of Basketball Philosophy - We have a grade by grade progressive style of play that is based on the principles of the HCHS basketball programs.  Each grade level will be introduced to new, more developed basketball concepts that build on their previous year's teachings.  This building block methodology will include yearly re-enforcement of basic fundamentals, and will allow for more advanced teaching that stays within the HCHS program philosophy.

  • Increased Community and Friendship - Our players have the opportunity to participate from 4th through 8th grade. This year in, year out consistency allows for friendships to be forged on and off the court in a special way.  Not only do kids make friends, but so do parents!

  • Minimal Financial Impact - Due to our multiple team structure, we are able to leverage typically expensive items such as gym time, tournament entrance fees, and uniforms.  This purchasing power allows for us to keep the financial requirement as low as possible for the parents.  Additionally, we have a great group of corporate sponsors who help us financially as well.

  • Appropriate Priorities - Most offseason basketball programs are developed to bring together top talent from a geographical area and are driven by win / loss records.  Fundamentals, basic defensive skills, and unselfish play are not typical characteristics of these programs.  Although we do strive for excellence on all levels, our priorities are on teaching the building blocks of basketball in a fun environment where players and parents can engage in fellowship and build community.

  • Be a Part of Something Bigger than Yourself - Not only do we work with multiple grade levels, but because we are focused on Holland Christian feeder schools and are influenced by the philosophies of HC Coaches, our players have a strong connection with the HCHS programs and players.  Some of our coaches are former and even current HC varsity players.  This unique dynamic has a multi-generational and communal affect on our program.
